About the Council

The statutory Aboriginal Heritage Council was established in 2017 under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 1975. We are an independent body who advise the Tasmanian Government, land managers and owners on the protection and management of Aboriginal cultural heritage in Tasmania.

Our members are from the Tasmanian Aboriginal community and have extensive experience and knowledge of Aboriginal heritage management.

Who we are

The Council is made up of ten members from across the
Tasmanian Aboriginal community appointed by the Governor.


Council meets once a month to discuss submissions, make recommendations to Government, and work on ways to promote awareness and protection of Aboriginal heritage in Tasmania.
