The Tasmanian Government routinely discloses information to the public under the Right to Information Act 2009. To further enhance our transparency and to enable greater consistency across government when this information will be released, the Tasmanian Government has agreed to routinely disclose information twice a year in April and October.
Disclosure information for Aboriginal Heritage Tasmania includes Before You Dig Australia Referrals, completed Aboriginal Heritage Assessments and Permit Applications.
For the period 1 April 2024 to 30 September 2024:
Before You Dig Australia Referrals
27150 enquiries were received by Before You Dig Australia in this time period of which 2328 were referred to the Department for further advice.
Aboriginal Heritage Assessments
50 Aboriginal Heritage Assessments were reviewed and accepted as complete by Aboriginal Heritage Tasmania during this time period. Aboriginal heritage assessments inform proponents of potential Aboriginal heritage impacts, avoidance and mitigation options and permit requirements associated with their project.
Permit Applications
25 Aboriginal Heritage Permit Applications were assessed and processed by the Department, culminating in a determination by the Minister for Aboriginal Affairs.
