New Aboriginal Heritage Council Established
Tasmania's new Aboriginal Heritage Council has been established under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 1975. It replaces a non-statutory body of the same name.
The Council has a broad advisory role that may extend to anything the Council believes it should consider and a specific role in relation to anything alleged to be a relic under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 1975.
The Council assists the development of information and policies to inform the public and proponents about best practice when managing Aboriginal heritage.
